Animation Part 1!

This week we've been looking into using anmation in the classroom. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about it all... the animations im use to seeing are in movies that cost millions to make and years to create, however I was suprised to see how easy it is to make a simple but effective animation using resources found in the classroom.

Donna, Tori, Vicki and myself are working together to create an animation of a tree going through the seasons. During last weeks seminar we created some of the props we would need and had a play around with the Digiblue camera. It was interesting to test out some ideas and work out how much movement was required between each frame and how many frames to take before we moved the image.

Overall I think using animation in the classroom is a great idea. Collaboration, creativity and problem solving are just a few of the skills it promotes in children and for them to see the final end product allows them to see for themselves how all the stages involved come together.

Ill update next week and hopefully have the final animation to add!

  1. I agree with you Rach. It is surprising what you can create with classroom resources.
I covered a little bit of animation last year in art and it was great fun but didnt realise how effective it could be until watching it back.
Will look forward to seeing your animation!

  2. I was also a bit skeptical Rachel but i agree with you - adults and children can create a simple yet effective animation in the classroom that they will be proud of but it will promote other skills such as team work, problem solving and creativity. I look forward to your update!

  3. Well, it is all very well saying how easy it is to make, but we have to wait for the final product! I am excited about seeing everyone's animation in the same way we would be in Primary School. It is fantastic to know that you see what is needed to do Animation in school, and how you can work as a team to do it.

How would you spread it across a module? Would designing characters and backgrounds be part of it, or would time play a factor and you would give them pre-made resources? I certainly think that this should be a major topic in Primary School, and time should be given to allow children to go as far as they want with their ideas, allowing to use their full creativity, which is a massive buzz word at the minute!
